Options for Landlines
We have an old house and landlines in our house have been a constant issue. No matter what we try the phone is pretty much useless due to all the static on the line. The phone company has been telling us for years we need to rewire the house since the wiring is probably original. But the walls are plaster and it gets complicated because the plaster has horse hair in it – it would literally kill me if we started tearing apart these walls – naturally we didn’t know it was horse hair plaster when we bought the house.
As a result of the landline issues we only keep the phone number to receive calls that we don’t want to miss. We carry the minimal service with no access to outgoing calls – and still it is $26 per month.
I happened to go to Verizon Saturday because of a cell phone issue and saw that they now have a service called Verizon Home Connect. For $9.99 I can add an extra line onto my family plan and turn my landline into another wireless line. For $9.99 it will access my normal monthly minutes but we have so many of those left over every month it won’t be an issue til we have another child hit their teens. And at that point for $19.99 per month it acts as an unlimited stand alone account – even then still less than my useless $26 I spend every month for a phone we don’t use! So I signed on for the $9.99 per month and we keep our same phone number. I also had to pay $1 plus tax for the “box” to make it all work. The best part is – there is no more static on the line – we can now, for the first time, actually use our home phone and hear the people on the other end! And that $9.99 works just like a cell phone – local, long distance etc…
What a deal!
