While searching Etsy for some crochet projects I found that some people sold “baby cacoons”. They are mostly used for photography but all the versions I saw were knitted. Regardless – I immediately thought “I can do that”.
First I made a graduated circle – as if I was making a hat or the toes of some very large slippers (maybe even a Christmas stocking – I will list the details below of exactly what I did) and when I thought the “pocket” was deep enough I did several rows trying to get the cacoon high enough for the baby’s shoulders with a little room to roll it down. This is the result:
A cacoon is supposed to fit snuggly and act like a swaddle with some stretch. This is rather big for the baby doll but it was made for a real baby which would be slightly larger.
This is what I did – I used a “K” Hook
5 single crochets in the first hole
3 single crochets in each of those 5 single crochets
Then the pattern: 2 single crochets in one hole, one single, one single up to 20 single crochets
Then: 2 single crochets in one hole, one single, one single, one single up to 25 single crochets
Then: 25 rows of single crochets
