Interesting project – It took me hours to even figure out what this was and I am not entirely sure what I think it is – is what it is. I believe this is a Frame Drum with an after market drummer handle attached. I picked it up at the thrift store for $6. It is three feet in diameter with a rather heavy handle. I certainly wouldn’t want to carry it and use it for any length of time.
It was kind of hidden in the corner and everyone wanted to know what it was while I was waiting in line (50% off day so I spent a long time in line). Of course I didn’t know but it looked cool and looked like a fun project.
It wasn’t in horrible shape but I just had to “jazz it up”. First the drum stick – that was horrid. I took a child sock with a skull and cross bones from Halloween and covered the entire thing. Then I wrapped the drum frame with copper colored metallic ribbon and Mod Podged that on. Once that dried I applied Clear Glaze along the outside of the drum frame as well as along the inside of the drum frame. The end result is pretty impressive if I do say so myself. My son has confiscated it and it hangs in his room.
