Contribution From My Daughter
My grandmother passed away before my youngest daughter was born and I have said for years that my daughter is without a doubt – my grandmother re-incarnated. I adored my grandmother and did everything I could to make her feel special.
When she passed away I obtained her sewing supplies. It wasn’t much, but two things in particular were buttons and little gem like “dots”. I have never done anything with the dots but my daughter uses them for everything. And it is important to understand she doesn’t just go willy nilly with them. Although she has never met my grandmother she treats these little gems with every bit of care and purpose that I would. She values every single one and when even one falls off or is missing from a creation of hers she will break down and cry because it is a momento she made of my meme for me.
This is her latest. It is this tiny wooden tray and she literally dumped a bunch of gems in the bottom of the tray (she is six years old) and “poured” (from a gallon jug) Mod Podge over them to dry. It took a month for them to dry. I have since added a layer of Outdoor Mod Podge (because some pieces were falling off) and then a layer of glaze. If that doesn’t solidify every single one of them I will resin them all – then they definitely won’t go anywhere. There is no utility in this tray as the surface is very uneven – it is meant to be hung on a wall to cherish all those little gems.
