Make your own baby wipes
It is very easy and inexpensive to make your own baby wipes. When I can buy pre-made ones for pennies (sale/coupon etc…) I do buy them. But otherwise I make them. I don’t have any babies at home but we still go through a large number of baby wipes – dirty kids, messes, travelling cleanup etc…
First you need a strong roll of paper towels. I use either the strongest Bounty or Brawny. You also need some sort of container, baby wash or baby shampoo, baby oil and water. For the container I use one of the rather square rubbermaid containers with the locking sides (leakproof). You can re-use a baby wipe container but you would need to re-fold the roll of paper towels in a zig zag style so you can pull them up and through the container slot. Remember to boil the water first, let it cool to room temperature then use in this recipe.
First, cut the roll of paper towels in half (or roughly – as you can see my halves are not equal). You will need a sharp knife for this. My knife is not the best for this project – I have to work really hard to cut that roll. I think next time I will try my electric knife… Then remove the cardboard center.
In the container – mix 2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons of baby wash/ baby shampoo, 1 tablespoon of baby oil.
Place the cut edge of one of the paper towel rolls in the liquid. Let it sit there for then minutes, then flip the container over for an hour.
After that – the baby wipes are ready to use. Simply open the container and pull the wipes up from the center of the roll – rip at the nearest perforation.
