The Too Large Sweater
I buy my daughter’s clothes and I don’t pay strict attention to size – other than it can’t be too small. But I have bought things that are too small if I thought I could make them bigger – but that is rare.
This sweater she fell in love with because it has a fur vest in the front (faux). But it is a woman’s small and she is not. The sleeves needed to be rolled up four times just for her to wear it – which she did wear it once like that.
I cut off the sleeves to just a little longer than was necessary. I then turn the sleeves (the part still attached to the sweater) inside out and hemmed. But I hemmed with a zig zag stitch and while I was sewing it I was stretching the fabric. I wanted a widely flared sleeve – to add some dimension to the sweater and take the focus away from the fact that it is too large.
See how much they were rolled up? Now – no more rolling is necessary.
