My second set of children…
I have two stepsons who are older – early 20s. Then we have a daughter who is 17. THEN we have a son who is 11 and daughter who is 6. When my stepsons were the only ones around, we took guitar lessons together and that was a huge part of our lives. Then my daughter came along and my husband, daughter and I took piano lessons. THEN the youngest two came along and all of that stopped for my husband and I. My oldest stepson is still heavily involved in guitar but no one else has maintained their musical pursuits.
For the last year my youngest two kids have maintained their position about really wanting to learn guitar. We bought them “toy” guitars and they have continued to play with them all this time.
So I guess I will get back into guitar – though my real passion is the piano, but I will start that again too. Problem is – it isn’t quite like riding a bike. I forgot almost everything I had learned and that is truly not an exaggeration! For Christmas my husband bought us a set of DVDs to teach yourself guitar – hopefully it will come back quickly and I will be of some value in my children’s learning.
And to get there – we rearranged some furniture, placed a TV on top of the piano (at least it can be used for something for now) and I broke some of the guitars out of their storage prison! This truly is just some…
This set includes a travel sized acoustic electric (the tan soft case), a small sized acoustic (for a female), a large acoustic and a large classical guitar. I have not pulled any amps out of storage yet – I don’t need to overwhelm them just yet. And the electric bass – still in storage too. Not to mention the drums, digital drums, two full size keyboards etc… Not too OCD huh?
Sephora can learn on the travel guitar and Anthony can use the smaller sized acoustic – I will have to resort to a full size acoustic or my classical (what a beautiful sound that one puts out). My stepson has my old electric and my really old classical guitar.
You should have seen the look on my kids faces when I kept pulling these guitars out – like they just really don’t know who I am! Now to find the time with work, kids, projects, chores, blog, swimming lessons, girl scouts etc… to actually follow through on this endeavor.
