A Very Important Message
Did you know human trafficking exists in the United States? Did you know it is second only to Drug Trafficking? This is not widely known and we need to increase awareness.
According to The Defender Foundation human trafficking is the 2nd largest criminal enterprise in the world and it’s growing. The average “shelf life” of a trafficking victim is 3-7 years… after that, most die of drugs, STDs, violence, malnutrition or suicide. The average victim’s age is only 14 and in some parts of the world it is much lower than that. The Defender Foundation is about “active activism”.
In the United States/America there is an epidemic of human trafficking – specifically the criminal exploitation of children. Children are sold into sexual slavery – they are threatened, beaten, raped, drugged and sold. It is estimated that 27 million people are currently enslaved worldwide. Human trafficking victims include men, women and children in labor servitude, private ownership and in sexual services. “This industry targets and exploits under-represented classes of people and markets their bodies to the desires of a growing demand class”.
How are victims obtained: Family members with criminal ties; children being sold by drug addicted parents for drug money; infiltration into high schools seeking out socially outcast children; stranger/danger type situations; and so many other ways such as fake employment or modelling agencies with or without storefronts, flashy video presentations, brochures etc… to represent employment opportunities abroad and educational opportunities for children.
Here is a video portraying just how this could happen. It is an emotional video but well worth watching to fully grasp how this could happen here. How many time have you been snagged by a modelling agency to make your child rich and famous? Me, too many times and it has always made me uncomfortable. After watching the video please go to the Defender Foundation site for more information and how you can help. Please also spread this message – don’t let anyone you know or in your community become impacted by this criminal activity.
