Making Body Bars
I have a couple body bars for working out. They are weighted bars, of varying weights – 12, 18, 25. This is a tutorial to make some that are more appropriate by weight for the kids.
The kids always want to use them but they are quite long and much too heavy for them. I wanted another alternative. Naturally I turned to PVC pipe.
I bought various width PVC pipes – 1/2, 3/4, 1, 1 1/4, 1 1/2 and 2. They were all cut to 2 foot lengths.
The kids helped with this project. I put a cap on one end of each and we used a funnel to fill each with paving sand. We packed the sand in as tightly as we could – then capped the other end. Of course we decorated each with varying duct tape designs.
When complete they weigh the following (which I noted with sharpie on the cap of each barbell/body bar):
2 inches equals 6 pounds
1.5 inches equals 4 pounds
1.25 inches equals 2.5 pounds
1 inch equals 2 pounds
.5 inch equals 1 pound
