Book Review – Chicken Soup for the Soul – Parenthood @chickensoupsoul

Internationally known speakers Mark Victor Hansen and Jack Canfield knew the power of a good story long before Chicken Soup for the Soul was published. Each had built their speaking careers by telling inspirational, motivational and uplifting stories that their audiences could use to discover, experience and retain key concepts and approaches. After years of continuous audience requests that they put their stories into book form, Hansen & Canfield finally agreed. Rather than focusing only on their stories, they decided to reach out to others and seek contributions of powerful tales of ordinary people doing extraordinary things. After rounding up the 101 most inspirational submissions, they were left with an untitled book they both knew had the potential to make quite an impact.

I love this book! Figured I would start with that right out of the gate. My husband and I have 5 kids – there is nothing traditional about our family. We have adoption, step situations, biological situations and such extended biological relationships it has always been difficult to answer questions about family. I can’t even tell you what the borders of our family are. The same is for parenting. My kids have siblings – that I am not the female head of household for. When we gather together the relationships become shared and mixed and mingled. When I was younger my view of parenting and parenthood relied solely on my experience with my parents. As a parent I know that no two families – traditional or not – are the same. We all have different thresholds of struggle, happiness, sorrow, elation and more. In my house – there is true excitement when my 12 year old son, on the spectrum – poops in the toilet! Seriously – that is huge! Parenthood is defined differently even within our family – 4 of the 5 children (some grown now) have special needs – either physically or mentally. This book helps to put it all in perspective. Parenting can be overwhelming at times but it is also the most fulfilling experience ever. This is another 5 star book by Chicken Soup for the Soul.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
