Bubbles, Bubbles and more Bubbles
It was raining all morning and no one really wanted to do anything. By the time the rain stopped – it was wet outside and the kids were all resorting to videos and Youtube… What to do…
You’d never know it is summer because everyone is wearing pants today – and most days so far this summer at the campground.
I have wanted to make this recipe for some time and it works great – though I did have to tweak it a tiny bit because some of the larger bubbles immediately popped.
The recipe is quite easy – the hardest part is finding glycerin. I could have gotten it at the pharmacy and it is a really large bottle for around $30. That would supply a lifetime of bubbles – totally not necessary though. You only need a tablespoon for each batch and I found a small bottle at Michaels craft store near the cake decorating items.
Not only are these bubbles huge but you can see they are kind of opalescent – they shimmer in all the colors of the rainbow.
The recipe once you have the glycerin is easy:
6 Cups Water
1/2 Cup Dawn Blue Dish Soap
1/2 Cup Plus 1 Tablespoon Cornstarch
1 Tablespoon Baking Powder
1 Tablespoon 100% Glycerin
We made our bubbles in one of those large gallon size dispensing containers – like you would put iced tea or lemonade in. Then we just poured some as we needed it into a round cover.
From there we just dipped our wands in and had fun.
