Every winter our electric bills skyrocket and I struggle with just how to make it more tolerable and manageable. We have tried covering windows, unplugging devices, lowering the heat – it all seems to provide minimal improvement at best.
We know there has to be a solution – we have a large old home but we also know that others in our area have old homes and don’t pay nearly what we pay. So logically we knew there had to be an answer but where to start. First of all our home has four floors and the first three floors are gas heat but the top floor (the most utilized floor) is electric heat. Coincidentally, the top floor is an addition that is just about 15 years old so you would think that would be the most energy efficient but it clearly isn’t.
The process of diagnosing an issue with BlindSpotz™ is simple. The temperature is recorded when the color is activated. As more colors appear, the greater the cold issue you have. When you see 55˚F or 50˚F on your BlindSpotz™ sensor, you have a cold problem that needs to be fixed.
It is very easy to use – once you apply the BlindSpotz to a surface, simply rub the ring until the color has all been grayed out. That basically sets the sensor. Place them throughout the house on doors, walls, inside closets, ceilings, adjacent windows, and outlets. Leave in place for 48 hours when temps outside are below 32 degrees F. Do not place directly on windows, metal or aluminum frames. For any spots that read 50-55 degrees F (when all four sections of the sensor are color activated) – take photos and send them to fixthecold@blindspotz.com and they will followup by sending you a variety of solutions to fix your energy problems as well as a coupon.
Once you have completed this process – you can easily remove the BlindSpotz™ .
To start I placed one in a bedroom on the top floor. That room has been a struggle in every season. In the winter the heat on high never makes it truly warm and in the summer the air conditioner on high never makes it cool enough to be comfortable and it is a relatively small room that doesn’t even have a closet. It makes a better home office space than bedroom but we need it as a bedroom.

First I take it out of the package and when I do it has colors already…
But when I place it on the wall, I apply pressure to the color border and it gets “grayed” out.
Once applied, if there is an issue the color band begins to appear and how much depends on how great the issue.
I also placed one on the wall right near the front door of that same floor.

And one on the stairwell door – this is where I believe we have the greatest struggle. Our house is set up as three apartments with a walkout basement. That cold air comes all the way up through all flights of stairs.
The two in the front room and bedroom seem to be okay. The one on the stairwell door changed almost immediately.
It definitely does remove easily – it actually never fully adheres to any surface I applied it to but it stays up. Clearly the stairwell is our greatest issue. And now we know!
