Knee and Hip Pain Getting You Down? No Longer #TimeToHitPlay #IC

I am relatively new to the 5th decade of life.  With that birth of a new decade, I find that I am often no longer able to do things that I used to.  I consider myself to be pretty active especially since I own four horses.  It is very difficult to live a sedentary lifestyle when you have four horses to care for.  In my 40s I would work on things at the farm and be amazed that “kids” half my age would whine about how much work there was to do.  It always seemed like I was not going to need to slow down.  But alas, my 50s have caused me to pay attention and slow down and my kids are beginning to understand that I just can’t do it all anymore.  Keep in my my in laws live with us and my mother in law is in her 70s and still, until recently, acts like she is in her 50s.  It just seems to be what we do.

Around 14 years ago I was an Irish Step Dancer – yup at 37 years old.  Now if you’ve seen Irish Step Dancing (like Riverdance and Lord of the Dance) it is extremely hard on the joints and I already had knee issues before I started.  But I was determined and my world revolved around dance.  It was something I always wanted to do as a youngster and never had the opportunity until I was an adult – nothing was going to stop me.  Well, that is until my legs just couldn’t do it anymore.

With a severe case of osteoarthritis in both legs, I needed to get bilateral high tibial osteotomies.  That is a really fancy way of saying they changed the angle of my legs so there would be less pressure on my knees.  These were major surgeries and really only buy me time before I can get knee and probably hip replacements.  But I would never dance again.  For the last 14 years, those joints have had periods of discomfort but really didn’t slow me down until I hit my 50s.  Now, I find that I have to really really want to get on my horses.  I am much happier, and so are my legs, just being on the ground and loving them.  But I feel like I am shortchanging not only them but also myself.  My kids ride them and other people at the barn occasionally ride them – but boy do I miss my trail rides especially on my big boys.

But I definitely can do something about it – and before it is too late for me to live the life that I want.  Hit Play helps you to determine if joint replacement is an option for you.  Do not allow your life to be paused – Hit Play and take control of your life!  I know I am tired of having my life paused… All you need to do is find a physician in your area who you can speak to about potential solutions to your hip and knee pain, including joint replacement surgery. As I am getting older, my body is just not the same. I know my husband suffers a lot with knee pain from an old injury!

This is an interesting read I’m going through a lot of tests at the moment as I’m getting a lot of pain, TimetoHit play sounds like a great idea for people to look at who are perhaps in need of such surgery.

I will have to show this to my husband. He has a knee injury from when he played football in high school. It still gives him problems to this day – almost 40 years later.

Thanks for sharing your knee and hip pain experience and I am glad to learn that you are much happier now and loving your horses and riding them. I have never ride a horse in my life and we don’t get to see them so often in Singapore. Hope you getting better and take care.

My knees grind and click very loudly when I go up or down the stairs and I am only 36…its been happening for years now too. Maybe I need to look into this.

I never heard of Hit Play before. This would have been such a great option for my grandfather. Glad that you’re happier now. Enjoy.

I sit more than 10 hours a day, no exercise and not active. I know I need to take care of my health more.
