When I was growing up my grandmother (deeply religious) had a bible that clearly had been referenced millions of times over the years. At that time I was the youngest in four generations. I had the luxury of knowing my great-grandparents for many years. Many of my memories revolve around all four generations heading to mass together, seating at the back of the church – so many of us it was like we owned the place.
The bible my grandmother had always fascinated me. For her it wasn’t just a bible – it was her passion, her feeling and literally part of her soul. She poured everything into that bible. She even wrote in it and at the time I couldn’t believe she wrote in her bible. I went to catholic school and if I wrote in a book I got a woopin’ – God forbid I decide to write in a bible!
All these years later – I don’t have my grandparents or great-grandparents around and I think of that bible often. I don’t know what happened to it as I went off to college but I never saw it again. Even if it was tattered in pieces she would never have thrown it out – but I never found it.
Today – I now have five children ages 11-29 and the world is changing. Just recently these awesome bibles were published that actually ENCOURAGE coloring, doodling and note taking in them. They are called Creative Bibles and they are awesome. Out of all five children, my youngest is the one who has the greatist passion and awareness of God. She writes to him often – she started doing her letters at the age of 7 when our last Weimaraner passed away. “He” wrote back to her once but made it clear he will be aware of her letters and watch for them – but he will not be able to respond again. These bibles are the perfect way for her to learn more, as well as allow her to feel closer to God in the process. She can actively participate in this bible. There are no “rules” – it is designed to have fun, get creative and make the bible exactly what you want it to be. Personalize it – as much as you want. And if you don’t feel creative enough to add your own embellishments – there are plenty of opportunities to get creative by simply coloring in the illustrations that have been embedded in the pages.
The floral design is a Silken Flexcover Bible (my daughter’s) while I have the pink hardcover design. Each design has designs across the edge of the pages. There are nearly 400 hand-drawn, scripture accompanying line-art illustrations throughout the Bible.
Each 6 1/2 x 8 1/4 inch Bible has an attached ribbon page marker.
The text is standard sized at 8.65 point with 2 inch wide ruled margins – all printed with black letter text on quality cream bible paper and has a presentation page for gift giving. This is the King James Version Bible.
