Ready.Chef.Go! Cooking Bags

Our family has made some serious attempt to eat more healthy and cook as healthy as we can – keeping in mind we have children and it takes a bit more effort to pique their interest in healthier options.   We recently found these Ready.Chef.Go! Cooking Bags and this is an easy way to start cooking more creatively.

These cooking bags are awesome for packaging and seasoning foods – they are packaged in the bags and then cooked right in the bag.  The bags can be used for seafood, meat or produce.

First I just need to bag up my meal and seal it.  Then I place the bag in the microwave (or oven) and cooking takes as little as three minutes!  The bags can go in the oven too but cooking will take a little longer.

These bags lock in flavor and juices and the result is a really tender meal/dish.  The food can be bagged and refrigerated or frozen for later use too – the cooking doesn’t need to happen immediately.  The bags also contain many of the odors so cooking is much more odor free.

The bags are designed based on the  400 year old French cooking tradition of “en papillote” (pronounced pah-pee-yawt), literally meaning “in parchment”. En papillote is a method of steam cooking food in a sealed pouch, most commonly parchment paper.  When I was a young child I went to camp and we did this manner of cooking as a way of introducing us to older methods of survival.  This method builds steam inside the pouch, which circulates and cooks the food in its own juices along with the juices of any seasonings and other ingredients.  The cooked food is fresh, moist and delicious.

RECIPE

Now what would you like to make with your new Ready.Chef.Go! Cooking Bags?  I do not eat alot of seafood – never have.  But my husband started making me a really simple recipe in these bags – All you need is cod and ranch dressing!  My husband puts approximately an 8 ounce piece of cod in a bag and about 1/3 cup of ranch dressing – microwave for 4 minutes.  Easy as can be.  It comes out completely steamed and the ranch dressing eliminates the need for additional condiments such as tartar sauce.  Delicious and this is the only way I will eat any type of seafood.
