The Auto Airbag

Summer is fast approaching… I can’t believe I am saying that.  It truly seems like Winter lasted forever this year and Spring has just started but feels like it will become just a memory very soon.  I look at Facebook memories from the last few years and we were already swimming, camping, biking, hiking and so much more.  This year – not even sure we should put the Winter coats away just yet.  Additionally, due to the harsh Winter, kids around here will still be going to school until just about the last day legally possible.  I have never ever heard of that happening.

But, let’s focus on the the happy days of summer and the long drives, cruising to our favorite destinations.  Where will you be headed this summer?  I know we will be headed to our favorite spots in Maine and New Hampshire and who knows where else – Florida perhaps?

Because there are four of us we tend to travel by car and they must be in tip top shape.  One of the things we are always focused on is our airbags.  Will they work in an emergency?  Will they deploy exactly as they are supposed to?  Too often I read of faulty airbags and what could have been prevented.

So what is the purpose of that airbag anyway?  Per Wikipedia the airbag is a vehicle safety device and considered part of the occupant restraint system.  It is designed to deploy very quickly and then deflate very quickly during a collision or some sort of impact.  There is an impact sensor, a flexible fabric bag and inflation module.

Many cars have multiple airbags – not just in front of the passenger and driver but also sometimes available for side impacts.  They are soft – but can still hurt when they deploy – anything can when it happens that explosively.  But the impact of the airbag is far less severe than impact with something else such as the dashboard.

But what if the airbag doesn’t deploy?  Your car has had no recalls, you are aware of no issues, and you did your due diligence before the trip.  And the worst case scenario happens – you, or your loved ones, needed that airbag!  At that point it may be time for a Tampa Personal Injury Attorney to help you figure out next steps… To help you and your family recover and have less to worry about moving forward.  Don’t let the circumstances overwhelm you – seek some help and guidance.

The airbag as an additional safety device increases the protection potential of the vehicle occupants in the respective accident situation. If, for example, the protection potential of the seatbelt is sufficient in the event of an accident, the airbags are not triggered. Furthermore, in the event of an accident, only those airbags that increase the protection potential in the event of an accident will be triggered.
