Tips on How to Stay Productive While Working from Home

With more and more people than ever working from home, there can be a learning curve on how to keep productive while ignoring the distractions that a home can be filled with on a daily basis. While it isn’t all that difficult, it does take some discipline. Here are some quick tips on stay focused and free from stress while you begin your work from home journey.

Make A Plan

Have an action plan, or a to-do list if you prefer, that you write up the night before. This will alleviate a lot of the indecision that you are sure to experience when beginning to work from home. One major thing to keep in mind is that even though you are at home, you still going to work. So, you can’t just sit around in pajamas. Of course, you don’t have to wear business attire either, but at least get showered and dressed in something you don’t mind being seen in during the online streaming meeting.

The More Things Change

While there will be certain expectations that you have going in, you should probably ditch those. Some things will be easier than what you were doing at the office, like getting to work on time or sharing files with co-workers. However, other things will be more difficult, such as coordinating everyone’s schedule so that meetings can take place. Go in with an open mind and be ready to be flexible with not only others but with yourself as well.

Take Out A Loan

While this may seem like an odd bit of advice, there is a strong possibility that you do not have the latest technology with which to work from your home office. Take out a personal loan so that you can upgrade your computer, printer, and anything else you use on a regular basis. It will pay for itself in a short period of time. While you’re at it, look at any other installment loans you may be paying on and see if you can consolidate them to not only save money but to squeeze everything into one payment per month. If you are dealing with student loans, an opportunity to combine into a single payment is a huge relief from trying to keep track of different bills every month.

Stay Active

Working from home doesn’t mean you need to sit in front of your computer all day long. Take breaks and go outside and get fresh air or do some exercise while you can. This will help keep your mind sharp and keep you from suffering from the effects of burnout. Remember that you may not need to adhere to a strict 9-5 schedule while you are working from home, so it may be in your best interest to take advantage of your new situation. If you are the type of person who loves to wake up or the crack of dawn or would prefer to work through the midnight hours instead of following a traditional schedule, by all means, do so while the opportunity is there.
