The Good Book Movie is the first evangelical silent feature to be released since sound was added to movies. It tells the story of a small New Testament that is passed along from individual to individual. These include young and old, rich and poor, blessed and forsaken. For seven of the strangers, it provides hope and meaning when they need it most.
Mainstreet Productions husband and wife team Fred and Sharon Wilharm produced their first faith-based feature in 2000. The Good Book movie is their fifth. Past movies include Class of 91 and Flowers for Fannie. When he’s not making movies, Fred is busy producing commercials, web videos, and music videos. Sharon is the editor/ writer for Faith Flix, a blog focused on faith-based filmmaking.
This is a “silent” film. I have seen a couple such films so I am more used to them now but the first time I saw one I was sure something was wrong with my television. I have watched this film once so far but will definitely watch it again. It is a movie that brings you through every emotion – and yes that absolutely is possible without speaking. This is exactly why this movie is good for everyone – every single person puts their own interpretation into the events and those are based on personal experiences and beliefs. In effect, that personalization is what leads to the strong emotions. This movie is all about how we make a difference in the lives of others – even when we don’t realize it.
The film closes with testimony from a Bible smuggler and convicted murderer who was given a Bible while in prison. This movie is 60 minutes in length and portrays in very realistic terms just how the Bible can make a difference in our lives and the lives of others.
This DVD has not been released yet. It is currently making its rounds of independent theaters and churches. It is anticipated that it will be released in the Fall 2014.
