We Must Have Pork Pie For The Holidays
My mother and grandmother used to make Pork Pie when I was a child and they made them often – for every holiday. Once we got married my husband kept working on a recipe until he finally perfected what our family loves. It is not the recipe my mom and meme made – it is different but awesome. And he never makes one because everyone always wants one.
Ingredients:
2 Pounds ground pork
1 Pound ground hamburg
1 Quart Chicken broth
Salt
Pepper
Ground Sage
Ground Cloves
3 Pounds of potatoes
Stick of butter
1 Cup Milk
Premade Crust (or make your own)
Simmer pork and hamburg in chicken broth in a large pot until cooked. Add seasonings of salt, pepper, ground sage and ground cloves to taste.
Peel potatoes and cut into small slices. Boil until soft so they can be poked with a fork. Drain potatoes. Mash potatoes and add in butter, milk, salt and pepper to taste.
Drain meat. Scoop mashed potatoes into the meat and mix as you go. It may require additional seasonings.
Scoop into pie crust and cover with a pie crust.
Bake at 350 degrees until crust is brown (60-80 minutes)
(and yes those are two separate pies – one in a glass pie dish and one in a stoneware pie dish)

I have never had a pork pie but think maybe it is time I tried one! This recipe sounds easy enough to make even for me.

I have to say it is a must to have pork pies during the holidays. My grandmother always made sure each family had a pork pie each year at Christmas. I love pork pie and will have to try this recipe. Thanks for sharing.
