The POUND story was born from struggle and a journey to self-realization that involved finding out what was missing for Kirsten Potenza and Cristina Peerenboom.

 

 

Cristina taught Kirsten that the tools needed to live a happy and healthy life weren’t so overwhelming, and Kirsten taught Cristina that physical exercise or (anything for that matter) should never be excessive, but instead fun and enriching.

 

And from there the POUND philosophy was born: Life can’t be fully enjoyed without balance and nurturing, and if you give up on self-improvement, at any time, you give up on yourself. There are always improvements to be made.

 

 

They have a mutual love of drumming and music. They knew that if they took their new philosophy and married it with that power, they could create something magical. And that is how POUND was born.

POUND is a full-body cardio jam session, combining light resistance with constant simulated drumming. The workout fuses cardio, Pilates, isometric movements, plyometrics and Isometric poses into a 45-minute series. Burn between 400 and 900+ calories per hour, strengthen and sculpt infrequently used muscles, and drum your way to a leaner, slimmer physique – all while rocking out to your favorite music!

I love that these routines are easy to follow, easy to learn and there are only so many different moves to get the workout in.  The music is great with each song being between 2-4 minutes giving a great workout in a short period of time with 45 minute workouts.  For those persons that know me – they know that I am constantly tapping and strumming.  If there are plastic spoons nearby – I am using them to drum; if there are cups nearby – using them too.  So why not get a workout with the same love of this activity?!  My kids even want in on the action.  We have drums at home but now it has become so much fun.  I use the Ripstix that are 1/4 pound weights but my kids use some plastic drumsticks we have for our digital drums – for them they work just fine.  We have wooden drumsticks too but of course they want to use something more like what I am using.

 

We got started a little late on this tour because we were on vacation in Florida.  We did get a huge amount of exercise in during that vacation even though it wasn’t “pounding”.

 

NUMEROUS STUDIES HAVE PROVEN THE POWERFUL BRAIN-BOOSTING, STRESS-RELIEVING EFFECTS OF DRUMMING:

  • Significantly lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol

I have children with special needs and with their needs there is a huge benefit to providing them with pressure and movement activities.  For them it is soothing and calming.  It also allows them to focus better and makes them more willing to focus.  The entire program is a win/win situation for me as well as them.  Plus we get to spend some quality time bonding and that is always a good thing and something I constantly strive for.
