Nancy Loewen has published more than 120 books for children and young adults. Two of her books have been finalists for Minnesota Book Awards: The Last Day of Kindergarten and Four to the Pole (co-written with polar explorer Ann Bancroft). Nancy has also received awards from The American Library Association, the New York Public Library, and the Association of Educational Publishers. Nancy lives in the Twin Cities and holds an MFA from Hamline University, St. Paul. She has two nearly grown children, two cats, and a beagle who takes her on lots of walks. Baby Wants Mama is a great book about a very busy family.  It has adorable and  extremely colorful illustrations. It shows all the family members, right down to their pet fish! Everyone in the family wants something (I thought it was really cute that Dad wants quiet). It is a very busy house but, they still take the time to enjoy a family meal together.  It is great for young children as well as children that are learning to read. After reading this book several times, the little ones can now “read” the book themselves.  I like the fact that it contains many rhyming words.  When children learn to rhyme, they can read and spell much easier when they are older.
