It is very difficult to eat healthy today. Between high-fructose corn syrup, MSG and food dyes, not to mention GMOs, it can be a full-time job just figuring out what to make for your family that will be delicious, nutritious, and not result in medical problems years from now. In our search for food, we sometimes forget that what we prepare our food IN is as important as what food we prepare. Thankfully, the 12-inch Green Earth Wok by Ozeri takes the worry out of preparing your food.
The majority of pots, pans and woks that are non-stick have a coating that contains PTFE, a synthetic compound that keeps food from sticking to the pan. One of the issues with PTFE, which has a waxy texture, is that when it gets too hot (sometimes even above 200°) it starts to release harmful fumes. These fumes are lethal to birds and small house pets, and can even cause flu-like symptoms (called polymer fume fever) in humans who are exposed. Even though these cases are not common, why take the chance? The other potential toxin in the non-stick coating is PFOA, which is a bit more confusing. PFOA is considered to be “likely a carcinogen,” and is used in the production of non-stick surfaces. The confusion, though, is that no one, including the Environmental Protection Agency, is really certain if PFOA remains after the non-stick surface is produced. Again, why take the chance that a carcinogen is being released into the air when you cook? The Green Earth Wok is 100% PTFE and PFOA free. The non-stick, scratch resistant coating is ceramic. There are no heavy metals or harmful chemicals.
In addition to being safer than other non-stick products, the Green Earth Wok is more durable and less likely to be scratched. Like all non-stick pans, the pan should be seasoned when you first receive it, and then seasoned again every so often as you use it. When I use it I always put a few drops of oil in the bottom to maintain it.
I really love the Green Earth Wok because of its size and its cooking ability. It is deep enough to fit a lot of vegetables and meat – enough to make a full meal. The wok has a magnetized induction base that will not scratch glass surfaces. Because of the magnetized induction base, the sides do not steal all of the heat, and food is able to cook evenly and brown beautifully, without hot spots that you get on other pans. The Bakelight handle is comfortable in your hand, and is heat resistant so that it doesn’t overheat.
I feel very good about using the 12-inch Green Earth Wok by Ozeri.Like the other Ozeri products that I have, it is well-made and of good quality. Using the Green Earth Wok I know that I am keeping my family safe from contaminants in the air. And I really love the wok itself – I can cook practically anything in it without the food sticking. It is easy and convenient to use and store, and looks beautiful too.
