The Search For New Doors Leads Me To Sears #HouseExperts

Our house was built in 1925.  When we bought it, it was two stories (apartments).  We actually lived in the entire house ourselves.  Then my in-laws moved into the first floor and we ripped off the attic and put on a third floor – built as a third apartment.  The problem is the third floor has all the modern conveniences but the first and second (and walk out basement) – not so much.

Little by little we have made some energy efficient improvements – within 2 weeks of owning the house we needed to replaced a furnace (each floor has their own).  Windows have been replaced, electrical has been upgraded etc… What is left?  Interior doors, exterior doors and walls.  These walls are the old horse hair plaster walls – I hate it.  It has layers of wallpaper over it and you just know it is crumbling behind the wallpaper…

Anyway – the outside doors are a big issue.  They are nice doors – big, old wooden doors.  But not nearly as energy efficient as I’d like.  I would love to keep some of the cold air out in the winter.  It is amazing how much you can fill through our big clunky old fashioned doors.  Thankfully there is also an interior door at the top of the stairs but still – even then it is freezing.  So yup – I am totally looking forward to changing the two front original doors!

If we replace our exterior front doors, it would really add to the appeal of the front of our house.  I love that I would be able to personalize.  Did you know you can get exterior doors from Sears?  We don’t live in the absolute best of neighborhoods and a new front door can even a great deal more security and can lessen the loss of heated or cooled air through the door.  I am really looking forward to a reduced energy bill.
