Make Your Own – Easy Fried Dough

fried dough

Easy Fried Dough is truly easy.  Sephora wanted Fried Dough in the worst way yesterday but the event got rained out and she wasn’t able to get any.  No worries.
Today we purchased some Pillsbury Grands, rolled each one nice and flat and fried them up on the stove.  As you can see there is more than enough powdered sugar and cinnamon – YUM.

To make them yourself you simply need a frying pan with some vegetable oil.  This doesn’t need to be a great deal of oil – just about a half inch.

Heat the oil up – while it is heating, roll the Pillsbury Grands into flat pancakes.

Place one or two at a time into the hot oil.  Flip after a couple minutes – keep an eye on it because they will brown very quickly.

When you remove them from the pan, place on paper towels and soak up some of that oil.  Then sprinkle (LOL) with powdered sugar and cinnamon.

They even store well – just microwave when you are ready to eat and then add sugar and cinnamon.

Sounds delicious! I tried to make homemade donuts with Pillsbury Grands grands this way once. Unfortunately, they browned so quickly on the outside, that when I took them out thinking that they were done…they were actually very “doughy” and undone on the inside. How would I avoid this? Do you think I made them too thick?

I sometimes make doughnuts this way too. They are not flattened out so you have to be very careful to make sure the inside gets cooked thoroughly without burning or overcooking the outside. I find if I make doughnut balls it works better. Basically your oil is too hot – it is a sensitive balance.
