I am terrible with my phone in the car when I am using GPS.  It tends to be plugged in (because of course the battery dies very quickly when using GPS) and floating around on the seat or cup holder while I am listening for the directions.  However this car mount makes everything so much easier.  My phone is now securely in place and visible while I am trying to follow the navigation.  Now I can not only hear my navigation but also can see it which is great for those last second calls to turn… I can use my phone in portrait or landscape mode and can easily tilt the device to I can see it easily regardless of driving position or time of day.  It also can easily handle my iPhone and my Samsung S4.  Sadly it will not be able to accommodate my iPhone 6 Plus that I am getting…Maybe they will come out with a larger mount.
