Two Ingredient Cupcakes With Cheater Frosting
Two Ingredient Cupcakes With Cheater Frosting are such an awesome secret – I feel like I am giving you all a huge gift. This is my favorite go to recipe in a pinch when the kids want a baked snack. How can you beat a two ingredient cake? I always buy cake mixes when there is a great sale – frostings too. Then there are so many great things you can make with cake mixes – and definitely not just cakes. Don’t let the fact that it is a cake mix limit your imagination!
This recipe can be made with any flavor cake and any flavor soda. You can use diet sodas but I worry about heating up those artificial sweeteners – so sugary soda it is. No one in the house really drinks ginger ale but when my daughter was sick a while ago we did purchase some. Naturally she drank one and we still have a bunch.
Cake Ingredients:
Cake Mix – any flavor
Soda – any flavor – For a lighter cupcake use 12 ounces (what I used), for a more normal density cake use 8 ounces
Frosting Ingredients:
Can of Frosting – any flavor
Powdered Sugar
Mix together and bake as a cake or cupcakes based on the cake box directions. Easy as can be.
For the frosting mix some powdered sugar with a can of frosting. Add approximately a 1/4 cup of powdered sugar at a time until you have it at the desired consistency. If you don’t add the powdered sugar you will find it difficult to give it a decorative frosting. Then frost.
I would like to thank Wholeness Home for providing a cake decorating kit to me for this purpose.
This particular cake decorating kit comes with 31 nozzles and 6 different tips. I can now create Rosettes, Stars, Drop Flowers, Zig-Zags, Dots, Words, the possibilities are endless and it is easy as can be.
I simply fill the canister with frosting and press the button to decorate my cake, cupcakes, cookies etc… Once I am done I take it apart and it is easy to clean – which is very important since I don’t have a dishwasher. And the end result is so easy that my 9 year old daughter can create these gorgeous cupcakes:
- Cake Ingredients:
- Cake Mix – any flavor
- Soda – any flavor
- Frosting Ingredients:
- Can of Frosting – any flavor
- Powdered Sugar
- Mix together and bake as a cake or cupcakes based on the cake box directions. Easy as can be.
- For the frosting mix some powdered sugar with a can of frosting. Add approximately a ¼ cup of powdered sugar at a time until you have it at the desired consistency. If you don’t add the powdered sugar you will find it difficult to give it a decorative frosting. Then frost.

I am so going to try this! I never make cakes or cupcakes from scratch and rarely make frosting from scratch either. The mixes and ready-made frosting it just too good. I’ve never had a frosting decorator like this but it looks easy one too. Thanks!!

This sounds interesting indeed. I am going to get a strawberry cake mix and I am going to use cream soda pop/soda. We have a pop/soda called Fago which is only available here in MI I think. They have the best cream soda pop/soda. Thanks for sharing.
