We live very busy lives.  Some days it feels like we don’t have a moment to spare.  Of course we could have a moment if we didn’t have the horses but there is such peace in our time with the horses – lots of work – but peaceful.

 

Our days begin with work and school then we spend about 3-4 hours at the barn.  The barn does include some fun time but it also includes caring for the horses.  We need to take every step possible to remain healthy in order to care for all their needs.  We have three horses – 2 drafts and a thoroughbred.  They need to eat, drink, have proper care and nutrition and have clean stalls.  All of that takes quite a bit of energy and stamina.  Bales of hay weigh about 45 pounds while a compressed bale can weigh as much as 132 pounds.  There are times when we are moving 50-60 bales of hay.  Bedding weighs 50 pounds.  Bags of grain and hay stretcher weigh 50 pounds.  Wheel barrows from three stalls easily weigh more than 100 pounds.  Buckets of water easily weigh 40 pounds – while dumping dirty water troughs can easily weigh hundreds of pounds.  Saddles?… They can weigh 20 – 50 pounds.  Owning horses is all heavy work – keep that in mind if you ever want to own a horse…
