Having A Sensational Morning With Smoothie Bowls

 

My daughter and I absolutely love smoothies – we could have them every day if I had the time to make them.  Today however, we opted to make smoothie bowls!  I have seen them all over the place but have never really had one.  Usually when we make smoothies we have to put them into a travel beverage container and run out the door.  A smoothie bowl isn’t quite as portable.

For us we always use Protein Milkshake protein powder.  It really does come as close to tasting like a milkshake as possible – totally delicious and it is available in some awesome and unique flavors.  Protein Milkshake powder is based on a whey protein which boosts metabolism, increases satiety, increases lean muscle mass, promotes weight loss, and creates natural energy with no crash.  This protein powder is also low in sugar, low in fat and low in carbs!  I consider it a miracle food.  There are no artificial sweeteners, it is vegetarian, gluten free and soy free!

We absolutely love the Strawberry Shortcake flavor and let me tell you – it always sells out and fast.  So if you find you like/love it too – STOCK UP!

The next super “secret” ingredient is Hood Calorie Countdown Dairy Beverage.  I can’t really drink milk and also prefer not to. My kids and I absolutely love this dairy beverage far more than milk – it is creamy, low calorie and completely delicious.

Simply add milk, protein powder and frozen strawberries to the blender and blend to your desired consistency.  For a drinkable smoothie the mixture should be a little more loose – it needs to make it through the straw.  But for a smoothie bowl I make the mixture almost like a soft ice cream texture – a bit thicker and able to be eaten with a spoon.

The best part of the smoothie bowl preparations is next – you can consider it additional flavors, decorations or anything you’d like.  But for me I consider it additional deliciousness.  This morning I made three – each had some combination of strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries.  And to top it all off,  a small dollop of whip cream – any excuse to use whip cream…

There is a certain satisfaction in eating a smoothie rather than drinking one.  It is kind of like eating a hamburger out of a fast food restaurant box rather than eating that same burger on dinner ware with a few adornments on the side.  I learned a long time ago that in order to stick with eating in a more healthy manner – I need to indulge in plates (not disposable), actual silverware (not disposable), add color and dimension to the food, and to take the time to sit down and eat.  It definitely works!
