With so many people opting to cut the cord lately – more and more tv viewers are choosing Netflix either as their primary form of entertainment or at least a major portion of it. We are no exception. We watch Netflix far more than any thing possible. But there is more to Netflix than just turning it on and tuning into a show. Check out the features you may not have known about!
How To Get The Most Out Of Your Netflix
Remove embarrassing titles from your viewing history
If for some reason you don’t want other members of the family (or whoever has access to the same Netflix account – more on that later) to see what you’ve been watching simple go to WiViewingActivity and you can hide what you don’t want others to see. The viewing history appears in chronological order.
Add ratings with Chrome extensions
Chrome extensions are very valuable if you know how to use them. Would you like to know IMDb ratings? Chrome extension Netflix Party and Rabbit are effective alternatives to FaceTime and Skype – they are like a Netflix party!
Download
In 2016 Netflix improved dramatically and became much more user friendly by allowing downloads! Not everything is available for download but select movies and TV shows are.
Netflix Roulette
This is one of my favorite hacks. I am always looking for something new to watch. My husband and I tend to binge watch but I can’t resume watching something when he isn’t home because I don’t want him to miss anything. I have in the past simply asked for suggestions on Facebook but it is clear not everyone has the same tastes as I. Netflix Roulette helps to select the next movies or shows to watch based on what I am interested in. No time wasted and I can trust the results.
Netflix Bible
What’s on Netflix (Netflix Bible) is amazing to find the next best thing to watch. It tells what what is new to Netflix and what is being retired. Don’t miss an opportunity to binge on something before it is gone! You can even see the 2019 schedule of changes!
Buffering
Make sure your settings and internet are optimized for the best streaming possible. To do this head to My Accounts > My Profile, tap Playback Settings, and make sure you’ve selected “auto” or “Low” to minimize buffering. Alternatively, if you feel your picture quality is too poor – go to My Accounts > My Profile, tap Playback Settings, and make sure you’ve selected “high”.
Who Is On Your Account?
Netflix allows you to have multiple people logged into your account – but do you really want all those people (devices) accessing your account? If you don’t, go to My Account > Sign out of all devices.
Are You Still Watching?
I don’t really know what is up with that stupid message. DUH yeah, I am still watching. And what if I just plain ole want it to keep playing all day long so the dog can watch? HELLO – the dog can’t say yes, I am still watching. Chrome extension Never Ending Netflix prevents that pesky message from appearing. No more anxiety…
Customize Subtitles
All you need to do is go to Your Account > Your Profile > Subtitle Appearance.
Become a Netflix Tester
Go to “Account,” then “Settings,” and adjust the “Test Participation” toggle.
Setup User Profiles
You can have profiles set up so you aren’t bogged down by other people’s preference. For example I have my own profile but so do my grandchildren. I don’t really have any desire to see all the preschool cartoons scrolling all over the place and they don’t really need to see NCIS and Outlander… And each profile can select a different icon and there are now so many to choose from to match the users personalities.
Additionally, different profiles allow you to set up restrictions based on profile.
