About the book…

Dex Rossi is a gawky, lovesick middle-school entrepreneur and amateur chef who runs a gourmet lunch stand from his front lawn. In love with a girl who likes jocks, he hopes to earn enough money to buy a gym system that will help him bulk up and win her heart. But while he serves up his locally famous food, his profits come to serve another purpose. He discovers that his grandmother’s restaurant is in financial ruin, and to save it, he must cook up a quick plan!

With the help of Alicia, his filmmaking older sister, and a host of great friends, Dex kicks his business into high gear. As word of his talent spreads like peanut butter, an unlikely windfall comes his way. Dex lands his own TV cooking show on the famous Eatz network! But just when he thinks he’s got his problems licked, Dex finds himself going head to head with a scheming, hard-boiled associate with a secret he has kept closely guarded. Dex learns that when your dreams are on the chopping block, finding the right ingredients is the best recipe for success.

DEX is an inspiring story for tweens 8 – 13, and a charming read for all adults that love food.

Our Side…

My daughter and I have always loved to read together.  She is an accomplished reader but still we love sharing the stories.  It is so much more fun when it is interactive.  My daughter is 11 years old, in 6th grade and really starting to develop a love for two things – Food/Cooking and Photography.  They can easily go hand in hand in the life of a blogger…

When we read together it is almost always young adult type reading.  Not because she needs it – but because I want it.  I read to escape and this is the perfect way to achieve that goal.

So, Dex…  my daughter and I have read all kinds of middle school aged books and this one is awesome.  It is engaging, entertaining, insightful and genuinely fun to read.  We work (and go to school) long days – we leave in the morning by 7am and return around 8pm.  By then cozying up with Dex has been a welcome retreat.  Everyone in my house loves to cook (ages 11 to 78) which adds to the hilarity while reading this book.

My daughter and I highly recommend it to anyone who is school age or has school age children.

This is such a great book! My tween loved it and is even reading it for a 2nd time! I like it because it’s inspired her to start getting a bit creative in the kitchen which has really helped with her self-esteem because she is finally seeing her potential!
