Life isn’t always easy, and everyone goes through troubling times. It’s all about how you withstand the storms and get through them that matters. You have to find a way to keep your head held high and believe that you’re strong enough to handle whatever comes at you next.
It’s smart to have a few tactics handy for when you do face stressful periods in your life. This way you’ll be more likely to take action, instead of feeling stuck and give up. The goal is to keep moving forward and thinking positively so you can get to a better place as quickly as possible.
Be Kind to yourself
This isn’t a time to beat yourself up and start reminiscing about all you’ve done wrong in your life. Show compassion and understanding for yourself and keep in mind that you’re not the only one who has had to deal with a stressful situation. You’re not alone and shouldn’t put yourself down. It’s okay to distract for a bit or make yourself feel better in the short-term by pampering yourself with a trip to your favorite beach or getting your hair done. Know the Feelings won’t Last
Recognize that what you’re going through will produce a lot of tough and negative feelings and emotions. The good news is that these pass with time. Acknowledge them for what they are, but then let them pass like clouds in the sky. Write them down if you have to and get them out of your head. Although the situation may remain what it is, you don’t have to feel bad or down unless you allow yourself to. Focus on what’s going right in your life and realize this circumstance isn’t your whole life.
Talk to Someone You Trust
There’s nothing wrong with deciding that you want to open up to someone and not deal with your feelings all on your own. Find a trusted friend, family member or therapist who will sit down with you and listen to what’s going on in your life. Be clear if you want them to offer advice or simply lend an ear. Keep in mind that they may have some helpful tips to offer or related experiences of their own to share with you.
Stop Complaining & Start Problem Solving
Feel bad for a while, but then start to determine how you’re going to move on from here. Stop complaining about your situation and start taking action. Use your problem-solving skills to work through what’s weighing you down and begin to brainstorm some solutions. Doing this will make you feel so much better because it puts you in the driver’s seat and you see that you’re no longer a victim.
Stressful situations aren’t fun for anyone. That’s why you have to get in front of the issue and deal with it head-on before it starts to consume you. Keep in mind that you’ve pulled through stressful situations in the past, and you’ll do it again.
