Weight Loss and Bone Health
Are you like most people today, concerned about your health and well-being and wanting to shed some unwanted pounds? Most of us are very aware of the obesity epidemic that is sweeping through many countries and our intention is to lose weight and rid ourselves of the unwanted pounds we are carrying.
What about those poor feet of yours and the struggles you have with your weight just putting too much responsibility on your bones? How long do you think this can go on? We all have the best of intentions but still sometimes it is incredibly hard…
Intentions however don’t create weight loss, and in some cases, our good intentions can even cause us to gain more weight as we become disillusioned and wonder if it’s all worth it, when we don’t lose weight. Losing weight does take lots of self-discipline and is going to mean a life changing decision to change the way view food and exercise in our lives.
There is no doubt about it – weight loss requires self-discipline and it will involve struggles, pain and discomfort. You may already be in pain anyway so let’s work towards being more health y. However, let’s focus on the fact that this is short term pain that involves changing our lifestyle and we make choices to ease the pain. Making these changes assures us of long-term health benefits and there is significant reduction in the risk of the pain associated with chronic issues. The opposite of course is true if we don’t accept the challenge to change our lifestyle and eating habits today and the potential for long-term pain and illness that we have no control over, is very significant. Making the decision to change a few things in your diet and lifestyle need not be as stressful as you may think if it is. Diets and weight loss programs today are not the same as they used to be in the past when weight loss was about denying yourself just about everything that tasted good for the sake of achieving little if any long term benefit. Believe me when I tell you, your bones will thank you!
Most weight loss programs that have proven results rely on life style and food choice modification rather than diet change. These plans encourage limited dietary and lifestyle modifications that focus on what you can eat rather than what you can’t eat. They rarely restrict any foods, but show a better way of eating the foods you love. The modifications to diet they suggest provide long-term solutions that are achievable and leave you feeling empowered as you see the weigh loss happening, often very quickly.
Two things which you absolutely have to do when you are trying to lose weight are: Eat healthy meals, at regular times throughout the day, and get more cardiovascular exercise. Not only does exercise help you with your weight loss but it also builds stronger bones!
I also find great success in writing – write down what my goals are (walk without pain); write down what I am eating; what I am feeling; what I am thankful for today and focus on a success of the day. Better yet, get yourself a journal to help keep you on track.
