Math Games Keep Children Excited

If you were to ask me, as a mom and educational employee for 23 years – what are the most important parts of a math program? I would tell you repetition and practice. But not just any kind of practice — I’m specifically referring to math games at Calculator.org.

The reason why math games are so important is that they are what help children understand how numbers work – from graphing and deductive reasoning to number relationships and counting. I know this is a surprise, but math isn’t a subject that comes naturally to everyone. When we take the time to teach our children why math is important and have them solve puzzles with our guidance, it becomes an enjoyable learning experience and a talent they can be proud of.

Additionally, math and science skills are particularly vital for young girls. Although it seems like an antiquated notion, girls still are not encouraged to excel at math and science. It is time to change their future.

Persistence and Problem Solving

Children are exposed to a variety of problem-solving activities in the classroom. While these problems may seem simple to adults, they can be challenging for young children. Children must be able to persevere through challenging situations, which is an important life skill.

For example, they might be asked to solve a puzzle or use math facts to complete a task. They gain confidence and new skills as they continue trying different methods and strategies to solve the problem.

Social-Emotional Development

Children learn about their emotions through playtime with friends and family members. They also learn how others feel by observing their actions and listening carefully to what people say about their feelings and experiences. This helps them understand how others think and feel so they can relate better with people throughout life.

Repetition and Practice

Math games are always a fun way to practice math skills and help children understand important concepts.

Math games provide lots of repetition, which is good for kids with learning disabilities or ADHD. Repetition helps them become familiar with the concept and master it. It also builds self-confidence because they know they can do it!

When choosing a game for your child, choose one appropriate for his or her age and skill level. Look for games that use only numbers 0-9 or ones that involve addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. If possible, choose a game with multiple difficulty levels—beginner, intermediate and advanced—so your child can progress as he or she gets better at the game.

Math games also help children practice their math facts while they have fun playing the game!

My Favorites

I have so many favorites that I like to expose my children to, and my favorite site is Calculators.org. This site has classic games such as Tic-Tac-Toe, Snakes and Ladders, Chess, Checkers, arcade games, preschooler games, and so much more. Even if you are an adult, these games are so much fun. For example, I love playing Chess. I am not great at it, so I never play anyone in person but online – I can be a superstar!

Another great game is Reversi which is similar to Othello. This is a game that I have played with my children for many years. A family favorite, and now we can play online.
