How We Save Big At Dollar General
When you have to go shopping – in this case for Beauty products – where do you automatically head to? Supermarket? Department Store? Pharmacy? Well do you ever automatically head to Dollar General? Let me tell you – that should be the first place you go!
My daughter and I headed out and performed an experiment. We went to Dollar General and searched for a sampling of some of our favorite beauty products. We took photos and made a list – determined to see once and for all just how much we were saving at Dollar General. In our case, we spend enough time at pharmacies so that used to be our “go to” place for so many beauty products. Until a Dollar General moved to town. We have been so committed to Dollar General since it opened that I don’t even know where my pharmacy customer shopping cards are – been a long time.
These are some of our heavily used and purchased products:
Pantene Shampoo and Conditioner
Pantene Hair Finishing Products
Jergens Natural Glow Moisturizer
Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Facial Moisturizer
Dove Body Wash
Head and Shoulders
CoverGirl Clean Matte Makeup
CoverGirl Eye Enhancers
CoverGirl Mascara
CoverGirl Blush
CoverGirl Pressed Powder
Wet n Wild Fingernail Polish

We bought the items at Dollar General – then took our receipt to our most frequented pharmacy and compared item by item. Keep in mind not one coupon was used. We could have used manufacturer coupons and/or Dollar General Digital Coupons – but we used none so we had a consistent place to start.
We spent (drumroll please)……………………………$84.50 at Dollar General
BUT
We would have spent $119.65 at our local pharmacy! I saved $35.15 without coupons, without sales etc… So I ask you – why shop elsewhere?
We could have saved even more if we chose to purchase the store brand. For example – the Head and Shoulders was $7.50 for 23.7 ounces at Dollar General and the store brand was just $3.50. How much was it at our local pharmacy? $7.99! So we saved $.49 on this product as a brand but would have saved $4.49 if we purchased the store brand.
Dollar General has so many of the major brands, plus the additional option of store brands in most cases. All these beauty products are used by us daily or almost daily. We make no compromise on product choices because they have all our favorite brands. They have all the products my daughter and I rely on daily as well as those for special occasions.
What could you do with an effortless savings of $35? Well that gets my kids a horseback riding lesson each week! And I didn’t do anything special to save it and no one had to sacrifice anything. Happy family members all the way around!
You too should make Dollar General your first shopping choice for your beauty purchase!
